The Aluminum Association Announces New Board Leadership

Steven Demetriou (Aleris) Elected Chairman, Thomas Brackmann (Nichols Aluminum) Elected Vice Chairman

ARLINGTON, Va., October 23, 2009 (News Release) — The Aluminum Association announced its newly elected Board members at the Association’s Annual Meeting at Hotel Palomar and Waterview Conference Center in Arlington, Virginia. Steven J. Demetriou (Chairman and CEO, Aleris International Inc.) has been elected to serve as Chairman and Thomas A. Brackmann (President, Nichols Aluminum) will serve as Vice Chairman.

New members of the Board of Directors include Jean Simon (Rio Tinto Alcan) and Marie Kistler (Air Products and Chemicals, Inc).

Jean Simon is the President of Primary Metal-North America, Rio Tinto Alcan. Simon joined the Alcan team in 1979 at the Jonquière potrooms. He was assigned to a variety of technical and administrative positions including Engineer, Technical Group Coordinator and General Foreman. Simon also held various superintendent positions at the Shawinigan Works. He returned to the Jonquière Complex to serve as Chemicals Superintendent at the Vaudreuil Works and then was appointed to the Central Bargaining Committee for operational stability. As of 1998, Simon held a series of senior management positions. He also sits on several boards of directors including Fondation de ma vie at the Sagamie Hospital Complex, Canadian Aluminium Association and ABI Owners’ Committee. Simon completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics Engineering at Laval University.

Marie D. Kistler is the North America Marketing Manager-Primary Metals at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Kistler is a 1988 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. During the past 21 years, she’s held a variety of technical and commercial roles within Air Products’ Merchant Gases division, coauthoring numerous technical papers. In her current role, she’s responsible for creating and executing programs to drive growth in key metals market segments, based on an understanding of the evolving needs of the industry and Air Products’ strengths in application development and product supply.

Other members who have been re-elected to the Board of Directors include Kevin J. Anton (Vice President, Alcoa Inc., Vice President Finance, Global Primary Products), Jean-Marc Germain (President, Novelis North America), Ian Hewett (President, Alcan Cable and Alcan International Network) and Kevin N. Person (Vice President Sales and Marketing, Wagstaff Inc.).

The Aluminum Association’s Board of Directors, assisted by the Chairman’s Advisory Council is responsible for all policy decisions for the Association. The Board represents the total industry by engaging the interests of the product divisions and overseeing the management of core member services.
