Novelis Names Philip Martens as President & Chief Operating OfficerATLANTA, April 16, 2009 - PR Newswire - Novelis Inc. today announced that Philip Martens has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer designate. Mr. Martens will succeed Martha Finn Brooks, who has elected to retire, effective May 8, 2009. In that position he was responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of the company's passenger vehicle components, modules and systems business. Prior to that, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Plastech Engineered Products. From 1987 to 2005, he held various engineering and leadership positions at Ford Motor Company, most recently serving as Group Vice President of Product Creation. "Phil's extensive operational, product creation and international experience combined with his passion for excellence will be major assets," said D. Bhattacharya, Vice Chairman of Novelis Inc. "Building on Novelis' global manufacturing capabilities and leadership position in key premium rolled products markets and recycling, I am confident that Phil will lead Novelis in further improving both its product portfolio and financial performance." Mr. Martens holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. In 2003, Martens received a Doctorate in Automotive Engineering from Lawrence Technological University for his extensive contributions to the global automotive industry.
