U.S./Canadian Aluminum Demand Down 17.6 Percent in 2009, Aluminum Association Estimates

The Aluminum Association announced that preliminary estimates indicate that aluminum demand in the United States and Canada (shipments by domestic producers plus imports) totaled an estimated 18,242 million pounds during 2009, 17.6 percent below a year ago.  Demand for semi-fabricated (mill) products is off 16.5 percent, totaling 12,735 million pounds. Apparent consumption (demand less exports) in domestic markets totaled an estimated 15,412 million pounds, 18.4 percent below 2008.
