Brock Tours Alcoa's Tennessee Operations

Aluminum Association President Heidi Brock visited with senior Alcoa officials in November, and then on December 1 toured the company's Tennessee Operations.

Brock is pictured here at Alcoa's can reclamation facility with Allison Buchanan, Alcoa Marketing Communications Manager for Rigid Packaging and the Aluminum Association's Can Committee Chairman, and David Sissom, Alcoa Electrode Manager.

"It's impressive to witness Alcoa's commitment to safety and experience the closed-loop recycling process of the aluminum can carried out so efficiently in one location," Brock commented.

Located 15 miles south of Knoxville, Alcoa's Tennessee Operations occupy 1,600 acres, 125 acres of which are under one roof. In addition to the can reclamation plant, the Tennessee Operations include a hot rolling mill and a continuous cold mill—producing solely aluminum can stock.

The cold rolling mill processes enough aluminum sheet every minute to produce 95,000 cans. The can reclamation plant remelts enough used beverage cans to produce billions of new cans a year.
