Association Seeking Vice President of Standards and Technology

The Aluminum Association is seeking a Vice President to manage its Standards and Technology department. The candidate will possess a degree (BS) in metallurgy, engineering, or materials science (advanced degree preferred) and a minimum of 15 years technical experience in the aluminum industry.Image

Core responsibilities
1) Managing the staff and activities in the development and maintenance of industry standards for alloys, aluminum alloy/temper products, and structural applications.

2) Preparation and supervision of the writing and editing of technical and application articles and publications.

3) Representing the industry and/or the U.S. on domestic and international standards committees and technical advisory panels.

4) Serving as chief industry resource with regard to responding to technical and general queries from customers, government agencies, the media, and the public concerning aluminum products, processes, and standards.

Competencies
The candidate will have the following competencies:

  • A broad, technical background in the aluminum industry.
  • Knowledge of production processes and operations, particularly rolling and extrusion processes and products.
  • Ability to support a technical position or philosophy but also be able to understand other positions and reach a consensus.
  • Possess strong written and oral communications.
  • Have experience with customer needs and interactions.
  • Be proficient interacting in international circles/committees and have an appreciation for cultural differences that may influence discussions and opinions.
  • Have proven experience managing a team of people.
  • Have demonstrated ability in the preparation and delivery of presentations to various groups/committees.

Travel, including internationally, of up to 15-20%.
