Clariant – Sustainability as a Corporate Objective
Safety of plants, processes and products, and the protection of people and the environment are Clariant’s highest priorities. The principles of Responsible Care® are therefore followed at all of its sites. Furthermore, protective measures have been drawn up that apply throughout the entire Group.

Clariant’s EHS management system (Environment, Health, Safety) is an integral part of all business processes and strategic planning.

Clariant strives for continuous improvement in EHS performance by developing new and optimized products, procedures and services, using energy and resources efficiently, minimizing environmental impact and the generation of waste products and disposing of residual waste in a safe manner. These efforts are supported by efficient procurement management.

Clariant is deeply committed to protection and safety in all of its activities and signed the Charter for Sustainable Development of the Chamber of Commerce. The Group’s own Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy is based on the principles of this charter. Clariant has also been awarded global ISO 9001, ISO 14011 and OHSAS ISO 18001 certification. Each of the worldwide facilities is required to adhere strictly to the principles of clean and safe operations outlined by the corporate EHS department. Clariant also operates a global incident reporting and emergency management system.

By the end of 2012 Clariant will open a new Clariant Innovation Center (CIC) located in the Industriepark Höchst (Frankfurt, Germany). Nearly 500 people will work under one roof in an area of 23,000 square meters. The CIC will bundle know-how and allow Clariant to fill its R&D pipeline, resulting in innovative products and processes. With the new CIC, Clariant will feature chemical research and development activities of the Group Technology Services and host Application Development laboratories and technical marketing functions of several Clariant business units including R&D and technical marketing of BU Pigments.

Clariant – A Strategic Focus on Anodized Aluminum
Clariant has collected over 100 years' experience in producing chemicals and more than 60 years’ experience in producing dyes and chemicals for finishing anodized aluminum and provides services and a wide range of colorants and process chemicals.

To maintain the highest standard, all core products are produced in Europe, mainly in Muttenz, Switzerland which is one of the most important European aluminum dyes and chemicals production sites. Clariant’s production processes comply with latest and strictest safety and environmental regulations thanks to our modern and state of the art plants.

Clariant – Quality Products for Anodized Aluminum
Clariant manufactures a full range of dyes and chemicals, many of which are patented and therefore are exclusive. In 2009 Clariant introduced Sanodye grades, a “green” dye range based on non-heavy metal complex dyes.

Clariant has initiated the development of an ECO-Sealing process with the target to cover a wide spectrum of economic (e.g. energy efficiency) and environmental (e.g. heavy metal free) aspects.

The manufacturing of Clariant’s dyes involves multi-step synthesis and utilizes many different process technologies. Precision, cleanliness and attention to detail are key components to ensure the finest products on the market. Clariant offers technical service for reducing waste in production for its customers and assists them to improve their processes.

Clariant prepares recommendations for colorants, chemicals and process parameters based upon complex requirements. Wherever the anodizing industry is located, Clariant and its partners offer all necessary application tests for anodizing, coloring and sealing anodized aluminum out of technical centers located in Asia, Europe and North America.
