The Aluminum Association Applauds Commerce Department’s Self-Initiation of Unfair Trade Cases On Imports Of Common Alloy Sheet From China

ARLINGTON, VA – The Aluminum Association applauds the United States Department of Commerce’s decision today to self-initiate antidumping and countervailing duty investigations on imports of common alloy sheet from the People’s Republic of China. 

The Commerce Department will now conduct investigations of whether imports of common alloy sheet from China are being sold in the United States at unfairly low prices, as well as whether Chinese producers of common alloy sheet are receiving actionable subsidies from the Government of China.

Aluminum Association Applauds New York Law to Encourage Sale of Aluminum Bottles

ARLINGTON, VA., The Aluminum Association today applauded the New York State Legislature on its passage of a bill that will permit the sale of aluminum bottles in the state.

The bill, just signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo, reverses a little-known provision contained in the state's 1982 Bottle Bill that prohibits the sale of metal beverage containers that have detachable caps. Designed to discourage the sale of cans that used detachable pulltabs, the law also technically prohibited the sale of aluminum bottles with crown caps or screw caps.

Aluminum Association Donates Canned Water to Tornado Relief Efforts

ARLINGTON, Va., Disaster relief efforts continue in the south after a heavy-hitting tornado system struck parts of Mississippi and Alabama—both of which declared states of emergency. The Aluminum Association’s Can Committee has donated canned water to assist in relief efforts.

“Watching what these people have to go through is devastating,” said Aluminum Association President Steve Larkin. “We wanted to help in any way that we can since we all have family, friends, or members who have been affected by this tornado system.”
