Aluminum Association Announces Heidi Biggs Brock as New President

ARLINGTON, Va., The Aluminum Association is pleased to announce that Heidi Biggs Brock has been named its new president, effective October 1, 2011. Ms. Brock will succeed Steve Larkin, who has served as the Association's president since 1998, and earlier this year announced his plan to retire at the end of 2011.

Aluminum Association Applauds New York Law to Encourage Sale of Aluminum Bottles

ARLINGTON, VA., The Aluminum Association today applauded the New York State Legislature on its passage of a bill that will permit the sale of aluminum bottles in the state.

The bill, just signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo, reverses a little-known provision contained in the state's 1982 Bottle Bill that prohibits the sale of metal beverage containers that have detachable caps. Designed to discourage the sale of cans that used detachable pulltabs, the law also technically prohibited the sale of aluminum bottles with crown caps or screw caps.

Aluminum Can Recycling Rate Reaches Highest Level in More than a Decade

At 58.1%, Can's Recycling Rate Is Nearly Double That of All Other Beverage Containers
WASHINGTON, D.C., The U.S. recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans has reached its highest level in a decade, with 58.1% of all cans recycled last year - a rate that is more than double that of any other beverage container, the Aluminum Association, Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) announced today. 

Aluminum Association Releases Video Honoring the Flag's Unsung Partner: The Aluminum Flagpole

ARLINGTON, Va., In honor of U.S. Flag Day, the Aluminum Association is paying tribute with a video of the flag and its unsung partner, the flagpole.  The video includes images of the American flag flying over various U.S. historical locations as well as the extrusion process used to create flagpoles. Aluminum Association member Sapa Group Extrusions, in partnership with Sapa Group Pole Products, generously provided the footage of the pole creation and extrusion processes.

Aluminum Association Donates Canned Water to Tornado Relief Efforts

ARLINGTON, Va., Disaster relief efforts continue in the south after a heavy-hitting tornado system struck parts of Mississippi and Alabama—both of which declared states of emergency. The Aluminum Association’s Can Committee has donated canned water to assist in relief efforts.

“Watching what these people have to go through is devastating,” said Aluminum Association President Steve Larkin. “We wanted to help in any way that we can since we all have family, friends, or members who have been affected by this tornado system.”
