"The aluminum industry is aggressively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The industry has proactively taken steps in recent years to reduce its own carbon footprint by cutting North American perfluorocarbon (PFC) emissions by 85% since 1991. The unique characteristics of aluminum make it the material of choice for many applications developed specifically to improve energy efficiency, from cool metal roofs to light weight automotive parts that reduce the consumption of fuels.

The Aluminum Association would like to congratulate Gina McCarthy on her recent confirmation as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. The Association has a long-standing and productive relationship with Administrator McCarthy working on clean air regulations impacting the aluminum industry during her tenure as head of the Office of Air and Radiation. A peer-reviewed life-cycle assessment (LCA) study shows a major decline in energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions for primary aluminum production in the U.S. and Canada.
