POSITION TITLE: Vice President, Policy and International Trade

DEPARTMENT: Policy

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: President  & CEO

FUNCTION: Serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Vice President, Policy and International Trade provides strategic leadership for advancing the mission and vision of the Association through identifying, and advancing key policy issues affecting the industry. Works with membership in developing policy positions and strategies; provides leadership in working with industry on compliance issues, communicates with membership and key stakeholders, and coordinates industry response.

PRIMARY RESONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as chief point of contact to all relevant agencies, Congress, and key stakeholders to monitor policies, develop policy strategy, and deliver industry messages and actions.
  2. Develops key trade policy positions with membership, and disseminates timely and relevant analysis on public policy issues affecting the industry.
  3.  Coordinates industry response to government stakeholders, including federal agencies, and Congress.  (E.g. includes coordination with legal counsel, meetings, comments, and interaction between member companies and government representatives.)
  4. Acts as Staff Executive and leadership for selected association committees and working groups to facilitate discussion, positions and actions, as appropriate, on current or prospective issues affecting the industry. Staff Executive for Building and Construction market committee, developing content knowledge in order to work effectively with member companies. Serves as liaison on other Association committees and divisions on trade policy issues.
  5. Team leader for policy program and department.  Leadership for internal and external resources supporting policy initiatives.  Aligns staff and external resources against desired outcomes to ensure aligned goals and communication of all policy positions – including environmental, health and safety policy issues.
  6. Serves as Association representative to external committees, coalitions and working groups on key policy issues.
  7. Collaborates with VP of Public Affairs to grow and maintain effective working relationships with relevant federal policymakers and other key stakeholders.
  8. Works with consultants and outside vendors to carry out trade and other policy actions as directed by the Executive Committee and the Board.
  9. Manages team responsible for EH&S industry compliance, government regulations affecting the industry
  10. Assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate or as requested.
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  1. Master’s Degree in Trade Policy, International Relations, Government Affairs, or related discipline.
  2. 10 -15 years’ experience in trade policy or government/international affairs. Experience with a relevant Federal or state agency is desirable.
  3. Demonstrated ability to track, analyze, synthesize and report on trade policy developments in the regulatory and legislative arenas.
  4. Proven track record of working in teams as well as autonomously, and leading teams (staff and constituents) on specific domestic and international projects.
  5. Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver presentations to domestic and international association meetings, such as the Chinese and International Aluminum Associations, the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and staff committees and divisions.
  6. Knowledge of or experience with metals or materials manufacturing industries and/or global trade and WTO processes a plus.

 

POSITION TITLE: Public Affairs Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Public Affairs

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Senior Director, Public Affairs

FUNCTION: Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Specialist will implement the social media and online advocacy strategy; manage member committees as assigned; lead the creative services function for the Association; and support the Public Affairs department with messaging and events.  Support the Vice President of Business Information with membership, including recruitment, onboarding and member relations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITITES:

  1. Prepares original content for member e-newsletter, social channels and website, press releases, video scripts and key messages for spokespeople. Proof/Edit a variety of materials, including member communications, social media content, marketing materials and annual report.
  2. Design and implements the Association’s social media strategy. Create monthly social media editorial calendars for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Refine with relevant, timely content.
  3. With guidance from senior management, serves as the principal point of contact, for member relations, including assisting with member recruitment and reference checks, getting membership applications approved with the Membership Development committee, ensuring all member data is recorded in the Association Management System, and answering or re-routing member enquiries.
  4. Work with designers to create visual content and visual brand elements to bring communications concepts to life, especially in social media posts. Keep the team organized, create and maintain editorial calendar(s), and track deliverables.
  5. Serves as the technology expert for the Public Affairs department (i.e., website backend, survey designing). Serves as the manager for Association intellectual property pirating mitigation, executes marketing strategies for intellectual property to generate sales (i.e. reports, publications, manuals, etc.).
  6. Supports media relations efforts of the communications department by providing research, writing press releases, and feature stories. Promote association’s highly technical content using key messages to refine into simple, memorable pieces of content, across various channels, including website, marketing emails and social media.
  7. Performs additional responsibilities as appropriate or as requested.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related discipline.
  2. 2-4 years related experience in writing, editing, and publishing documents in print or electronically.
  3. Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. Demonstrated skill and experience with a variety of software programs related to design, editing, graphics, and photo archive management.
  5. Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, interpret, and summarize key items from technical publications.
  6. Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills to effectively address all levels of audiences from mid level professionals to senior executives.
  7. Trade Association or Non Profit membership experience a plus.
