Aluminum Week: Trade Enforcement Progress in Meetings with Mexican Trade Officials

The Aluminum Association met with Secretary of the Economy Marcelo Ebrard and other top officials to discuss upcoming U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) negotiations and the urgent need for increased monitoring and enforcement to combat unfair trade of aluminum through Mexico. Our team consistently delivered the message that Mexico must harmonize tariffs and set up a full and robust import monitoring program -- consistent with the Trump administration’s trade agenda. The ministers expressed strong support for these measures, which the Aluminum Association has advocated for many years. In fact, following our meetings, the Mexican government announced a new raft of tariffs on imported products aimed primarily at China, including aluminum. More to come.
