Sr. Manager and Engineer, Standards and Technology
Duties: Manage the Association’s standards development activities for the benefit of the aluminum industry and in line with organizational and member driven requirements. Update and maintain the Association’s technical publications and resources and continually enhance their usability to keep up with the evolution of engineering requirements and communication demands of the modern industry. Serve as liaison to other North American and international standards development organizations, such as ASTM International, ISO and ANSI, to represent the Association and its membership and to promote and safeguard the interests of the U.S. aluminum industry. Represent the voice of the aluminum industry in metallurgical, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering discussions through appropriate participation in relevant codes and standards groups within organizations such as SAE, ASME and NFPA. Explore and assess standardization concerns and challenges in major aluminum industries, including aerospace, automotive, construction, and electrical, to devise, refine and promote standards development solutions. Assume formal secretarial responsibilities on relevant committees to manage projects and operations using modern software tools. Prepare and approve budgets, convene meetings, ensuring compliance with antitrust obligations, and engage with members to appropriately establish ballot or verbal consensus to collectively propel technological and standards related initiatives and market growth objectives. Conduct and organize research to strengthen and expand standards and technology operations and materials and to provide responses to public inquiries on standards interpretation.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. 5 years’ progressive experience: Managing technical operations or projects, including planning patron-facing projects and creating solutions; and Engaging with collaborators from a variety of STEM fields. 3 years’ experience convening and facilitating meetings between industry stakeholders and disseminating technical information. 2 years’ experience: Writing technical reports, articles, or whitepapers; Formulating, interpreting, and transmitting data between relevant stakeholders; Creating solutions to facilitate collaborative workflow and improve productivity, utilizing project management tools, computer aided engineering tools, modeling and analysis programs; and Ensuring successful compliance or surveillance audits by preparing documentation, responding to findings, and maintaining procedural requirements. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 8% of the time, primarily nationally, but occasionally internationally, to represent the Aluminum Association and the interests of the U.S. aluminum industry, including in technical committee meetings and at industry events.
