Aluminum Week: EGA & Century Announce Oklahoma Smelter Plans

Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) and Century Aluminum announced the two would work together to build the primary aluminum smelter in Oklahoma that was first announced by EGA last year. This facility, which would be the first new smelter built in the United States in nearly 50 years, is expected to produce nearly 750,000 metric tons annually—25% more capacity than previously announced. The aluminum industry needs access to a reliable metal supply and abundant, affordable energy to continue to grow and expand in the United States. While we will continue to rely on imported primary aluminum to meet demand for our products for some time to come, this news is a welcome and significant step toward a more self-sufficient domestic industry.
