Committee Highlights

Secondary Producers

Secondary Production is the process of recycling aluminum scrap into aluminum that can be used again—an environmentally sound process that is 92 percent more energy efficient than primary production. Over the last 30 years, the United States has become increasingly dependent on recycled aluminum scrap as a feedstock.

The Secondary Producers group works to address priorities specific to this key segment of the industry and is composed of those aluminum remelters that produce either molten metal for customer use or cast products that will subsequently be remelted for customer use. The committee’s focus areas include recycling optimization initiatives, saltcake/baghouse dust disposal and reclamation, industry intelligence gathering, safety initiatives and benchmarking, and market growth development.

Current membership includes: Audubon Metals, Real Alloy, Scepter, Smelter Service and Tennessee Aluminum Processors.

Sheet and Plate

When aluminum is passed between rolls under pressure, it becomes thinner and longer in the direction in which it is moving. This simple process is the basis for producing aluminum plate, sheet and foil. Sheet, the most widely used form of industrial aluminum, is used in applications including aerospace, transportation, packaging and construction.

The Sheet and Plate committee provides an open forum for aluminum sheet and plate producers to discuss, develop and implement programs to strengthen the U.S. market. The committee’s primary work includes policy advocacy, regulatory engagement and market promotion.

Current membership includes: Almexa, Arconic, Assan Aluminyum, Commonwealth Rolled Products, Constellium, Golden Aluminum, Jupiter Aluminum, JW Aluminum, Kaiser Aluminum, Novelis, Skana Aluminum Company, Texarkana Aluminum, Tri-Arrows Aluminum, United Aluminum and Vulcan Inc.
